本篇文章旨在分析並討論兩種西方國家所發展之生活品質指標量表the Quality of Life Index (QLI) the Medical Outcome Study 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) 於台灣相關研究應用之問題。

Abstract

This paper analyzes and discusses the issue of Taiwanese studies using two foreign quality of life (QOL) measurements; namely, the Quality of Life Index (QLI) and the Medical Outcome Study (MOS) 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36). By examining these instruments’ development, translation and adoption process, as well as discussing the concept, translation and validity and reliability issues, this paper argues for the appropriateness of using the QLI and SF-36 in .

Although QLI and SF-36 are well-developed and internationally recognized instruments, the present paper suggests that there is a need to ask how much consideration was given to the cultural relevance of their content and its source or the normative implications of the items. These problems all question the suitability of using the QLI and SF-36 in , and also call attention to the need for a national-based empirical measurement that reflected the meaning of QOL from the Taiwanese perspective. This is necessary because, in order to understand the issues of QOL for the Taiwanese population, an instrument that is sensitive to Chinese cultural issues is required.
