Abstract

In support of the important task for colleges and universities in Taiwan to examine the
adequacy and efficacy of their educational environments, the purpose of this study was to
survey the employment situation of college graduates from Tzu-Chi College of Technology’s
Department of Physical Therapy. Web and paper questionnaires were used to construct a
databank of students who graduated between 1997 and 2008. An analysis of the created
databank can help the college’s administration understand the job condition, job satisfaction,
and teaching satisfaction of the college graduates, as well as lead to modifications in the
courses and teaching skills within the school. A total of 578 college graduates were drawn as
samples, with a valid return of 148 completed questionnaires (return rate of 25.6%). The
questionnaires were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results indicated that most of the
college graduates (over 90 percent) have full-time jobs, and over 86% accepted a job within
the field of physical therapy; this includes 57% working in rehabilitation medicine and 24% in
physical therapy. Basically, more than 90% of the college graduates reported being satisfied
with both their work environment and work content. Using a 4-item, 5-point Likert scale, all
item mean scores ranged between 3.74 and 3.91, indicating that the college graduates felt
positive toward the quality of the education they received.
